The hideous visage that is Nicolas Cage babysits a Navajo Indian "codetalker"during our Pacific campaign against the Japanese in WW2. Paint-by-numbers scriptglosses over its rich subject matter, preferring instead to dish out clich and cardboard characters (at least the villains aren't Nazis again). Andthough director John Woo doesn't whip the violence into his usual tsunamiof gore, the battle scenes are technically superb. Shame on the screenwriters-WorldWar Woo deserved much better source material.
