Reviews:

Reminder to self: Write a graphic novel. It will be adapted into a motion picture. Seriously. Remember how long it took Hollywood to make a Spider-Man movie? Five years later, the vast DC and Marvel stables are running dry and independent auteurs are reaping big paydays. Ironically, 30 Days scribe Steve Niles pitched this story to the studios first, got denied, then cranked out a three-part miniseries to great acclaim. Niles got the last laugh, but how does the audience fare? Luckily, director David Slade took the reins fresh off his startling debut, Hard Candy, and noir-nut Josh Hartnett (The Black Dahlia, Sin City) hopped aboard as well. The title refers to an Alaskan town's month-long period of perpetual darkness, during which vampires (naturally) pretty much get the all-you-can-bloodsuck buffet. 30 Days is shot gorgeously and the sense of prevailing we're-effed dread never lets up over 113 taut minutes.
