Since their worldwide breakout two years ago, Texican trio Los Lonely Boys--brothers Henry, JoJo, and Ringo Garza--have achieved multi-platinum album sales, a Grammy award, and widespread acclaim. All those experiences and more inform their commanding, propulsive new album, Sacred.Reviews:
''Sacred'' was released on July 18, 2006. It is the Los Lonely Boys' fourth album and their second studio set. The original title of the album, as shown on the "Diamonds" single printed materials was to be "Òralé". "Diamonds", a revised version of the same song from the 1997 album, was the first single to be released, May 8, 2006. This was followed by the single release of "My Way".
The album features a fuller sound than the earlier album, primarily due to extra instruments. The button accordion is prominently featured on "Texican Style", and harmonica on "Home". There are horn accompaniments (trumpet, tenor and baritone sax) on several songs, including "My Way".
As noted on the main Los Lonely Boys page, Willie Nelson, and the boys' father, Enrique Garza, both perform on "Outlaws". Pat Simmons of the Doobie Brothers is a co-author of "Roses". - Wikipedia
What kind of pressure is there in following up a Grammy-winning debut album?Ringo: A lot of pressure.
Henry: The pressure was just on, man, but as brothers we did a pretty good job to kind of keep everything off our backs and just do the album.
Ringo: It actually brought things [out] amongst my brothers and myself that weren't normally there. But you start as kids and you get through all the little fights and bickering and stuff like that. You get older and it's about being able to compromise and say, "Hey man, we all know what we want here." We definitely did that.
So no hammerlocks in the studio?
JoJo: No, we always had the hammerlocks. [Laughs]
Henry: Hammerlocks and noogies!
JoJo: Actually, there was a lot more talking and just sitting at a piano and working things out. That was one of the big things we did for this album.
What did you want Sacred to sound like?
Henry: The new album sounds like just, I guess, the same three brothers. We went a little more deep on some of the lyrics and stuff.
Ringo: It's a little more mature. Over the last few years we didn't have time to really write it. We were touring a lot and stuff, and finally, when it got down to a point we were just like, "We gotta do it, man."
JoJo: There are a lot of points in the playing, the lyrics, the sound, us being brothers. We've grown up. You can hear it.
Ringo: But it's still us. The whole flavor is the same as the first album.
What made "Diamonds" the best song for the first single?
Henry: "Diamonds" is an old song, resurrected. We brought it back from the dead and kind of remodeled it and redid it but kept the same form.
Ringo: We weren't planning on recording that song again. But my brothers were telling me and saying, "Hey, man, it's still our song. We just got to remold it, man, help it grow a little more." And it sure did.
JoJo: We did, like, a little plastic surgery. It still looked pretty, so we didn't mess it up. But we made it better.
